Lovebirds are very active and vocal little birds. A lot of people think that you need to buy them in pairs but if you are attentive and provide your bird with enough attention and interaction, that is not necessary. They are territorial by nature and are known to develop a strong loyalty to their owner or to the other Lovebird that is with them in their cage.

Although they are tiny in size, they require a cage with a lot of room for them to fly and play because of their energetic ways. (Shop our bird cages here) They love to chew on things so be cautious if they are flying freely in the house that they are not chewing any electrical wires or furniture and if you have any clothing with buttons or jewelry on it.White_Faced_Lovebirds

Because of their small size and small lungs it is crucial that there are no Teflon pans being used in your house, that no candles are lit, and that bird safe cleaning products and air fresheners are being used at all times. Lovebirds are very intelligent birds and they can quickly learn how to escape their cages. They can be tamed easiest as babies and with one-on-one training away from their pair if you buy two. With training, lovebirds have a great ability to catch on quickly to tricks and proper handling behavior with practice and can become extremely affectionate and cuddly. Peach_Faced_Lovebirds

Lovebirds are not commonly great talkers. They usually can mimic a few sounds and maybe a few words but that is usually it. They are quite noisy for such little birds and begin chirping in the early morning by nature and continue in the evening. They love pretty much any type of size appropriate, bird safe toys and do best with a variety of shapes and textures. (Shop our small sized bird toys here). They especially love swings, mirrors and bells.

When it comes to their diet, they require a daily balance of seed, fruits, vegetables, and herbs in one bowl (Shop our Lovebird bird food here) and a mainly seed blend in another bowl (Shop our Lovebird bird seed here), as well as fresh clean water. Lovebirds also usually do well with cuttlebone in their cage which provides them with a strong source of calcium in their diet. (Shop our cuttlebone for birds here) If your bird will not consume cuttlebone when you hang it in their cage, you can also try shaving the soft side of cuttlebone over their food to ensure they are remaining in best health. Lovebird_Pair

Most lovebirds love to bathe and splash in water! A bathing bowl in their cage will keep them playing and washing daily. (Shop our bird baths here) Provided the correct perches (Shop our bird perches here), Lovebirds tend to maintain their beaks and nails on their own as well.

These adorable birds are a bit noisy as pets but a ton of fun and full of affection. They do not require a lot of grooming and usually take care of the bathing on their own and can bond very closely with their loved ones.
